Set within glorious Capability Brown designed grounds, Stoke Place was built as a family residence in 1690 by Patrick Lamb. East and west wings were added over time and the property retains the warmth of a family home with an emphasis on service, glamour and comfort. Sat amongst 26 acres of gardens and protected by an ancient wall running the entire length of the grounds, the rural tranquility of Stoke Place makes it difficult to believe you are only 30 minutes from central London and 15 minutes from Heathrow.

A Queen Anne, 17th Century manor house, Stoke Place was the first in the family of Dhillon Group transformations (other properties include The Olde Bell in Hurley and The Crown in Amersham). Stoke Place’s décor was re-worked to provide luxurious adult comforts for stylish getaways. When planning the re-design of Stoke Place, the design manifesto hinged on creating comfortable, informal splendour with quirky but stylish reworks of the traditional country house. The group’s overriding objective was to create a rural outpost that was luxurious yet affordable, stylish but groovy. Guests approaching Stoke Place from the sweeping gravel driveway would be forgiven for mistaking it as a fussy, traditional English country hotel. It is anything but. Inside it's an eclectic mix of old and new, elegant Victorian rooms have been given a 21st century makeover with contemporary furnishings, colour and detail.

Hip design touches and rural glamour abound at Stoke Place, cutting through any daunting aristocratic grandness. The hotel boasts a unique and colourful labyrinth of rooms and lounge spaces ending in the impressive ballroom where the large scale celebrations take place. Stylish afternoon teas, cocktail hour drinks, inventive menus for stylish celebrations and indulgent pampering sessions in the beauty room are all available to guests.

Guests enter through the reception area and the classical country house picture deconstructs. Traditional rules are bent, the classic English country manor reinvented. The staircase is painted duck egg blue. A single wall is decorated with picture-less frames within frames, a witty reference to Stoke Place’s history as a former family home. Only 30 minutes from London, the hotel whispers style without ostentation, luxury without fuss. Furnishing includes bookcases in alcoves, overstuffed sofas and comfortable easy chairs. The 39 bedrooms offer modern comforts in rooms of all shapes and sizes, some with roll top Victorian baths and big bay windows, others with one wall of glass and stunning views of the grounds. I-pod docking stations, plasma TVs, incredibly comfortable beds with the best linen and rainforest showers are staples in every room.

Individually designed dining rooms, some with bay windows, others with private terraces, all with personal design touches line the length of the house and host parties of 8 to 200 guests. The wine and cocktail lists are inventive, offering seasonal in-house cocktails using herbs from the gardens. The food is created and cooked by head chef Craig van der Meer who has been awarded 4 in The Good Food Guide for two year’s running and two rosettes for fine dining by the AA Guide. Craig’s food is modern British, inventive and seasonal.

Aimed at cosmopolitan guests and food enthusiasts, this 17th Century Queen Anne house is a winning combination of hip and heritage, mixing classic settings with flamboyant modern design. Stoke Place is available to hire for an exclusive party, giving over all 39 bedrooms, the entire house and grounds for the day and night of the wedding. When taken exclusively the house is transformed into a family home again, giving free reign to guests to celebrate in complete style.
