The Cavendish Arms

The Cavendish Arms is the ideal location and destination venue. This Hidden Gem of South London is nestled between the Wandsworth road and the South Lambeth road. 1 minutes walk from Stockwell Bus Station, 5 minutes walk from Stockwell Underground and 7 minutes walk from Vauxhall.

Musician turned Landlady Shirley Jane Errey took over The Cavendish Arms in late 2007 and renovated it into a cultural hub of South West London which explores and showcases the best in new and up and coming comedy, music, burlesque and performance that the capital has to offer. In 2010 she employed promoter and entrepreneurial visual artist Tristan J C Scutt as Venue Manager. Along with a whole host of events (which parties are allowed in for free if you let them know before) they are also available for private hire every day and night, perfect for video and photo shoots, events, birthdays, children’s discos (where adults can drink next door!), charity parties and anything you can think of.

They have 2 main spaces for hire, The Pub Room and The Glamorous Backroom – along with the adjoining front facing garden, which is perfect for BBQs. Also, Shirley’s Husband David owns a warehouse full to the rafters with interesting props and objects, including a human sized bird cage, blood sucking Zombies, sun kissed palm trees, a pirate ship and more. Ideal additions for your party or photo shoot… Just tell them what you need.

There is also an events and production team on hand, if you need advice or help before or during your hire with them. During your hire the fun and chatty, events savvy bar staff are extremely friendly, playing the perfect hosts to you and your guests. Both rooms are available for hire from 8am – 2am every day all year around.

The Pub Room interior explores a traditional London drinking den aesthetic with an eclectic and imaginative artistic edge. (Decorations can be removed or added if desired) With the original fire place as the centre piece and the colourful patterned retro wall paper and carpet as the perfect backdrop, this room is very suited to photo shoots and video shoots. On evenings that they have events in The Backroom (comedy, burlesque, music, theatre) they can reserve an area for you in The Pub Room, ideal for that imaginative birthday party or staff outing if on a budget. This room is also available for exclusive private hire if you have a specific request or event in mind. Intimate dinners, lavish dates, interviews for TV and quirky performances have been known to happen in this space.

The Backroom interior explores a vintage Anglo-American speak easy vibe ballroom which plays host to a red curtained stage, seating (if desired), chequer board flooring, full PA, lights, backline plus a glitter ball. Think Twin Peaks meets Beau Brummel and you’re almost there.

This room is ideal for photo shoots and film shoots, either using the existing backdrop of gold patterned wall paper, red curtained antique wood stage, the black and white chequered floor or create your own as there is definitely the space.

Equipped with a full PA, lights, backline, sound engineers and an adjoining dressing area this room is ideal for all manner of events spanning wedding receptions, charity fund raisers, dance classes, life drawing classes, children’s discos, birthday parties or live music, comedy and burlesque events.

They are very flexible and aim to cater for your specific needs, resulting in you owning the place for the duration of your hire. Whether you need the room for an indoor daytime crafts market, a morning exercise dance class, an elegant evening, privately catered dinner for two, or a birthday party for 10 to 100 which goes on till the early hours. They can work with you to make your idea happen.
